SmashFace utilizes the Betaface API to perform facial recognition and detect "hit points". When you punch (tap) a hit point, the corresponding bruise is then overlaid on top of the face image, giving the illusion of beating the image up.
SmashFace works best on an image with clearly defined facial features and facing the camera. It is still far from perfect though, so there is an edit mode - click the gear icon in the header to drag the bruises around and better position them. You can also long press (tap and hold) a bruise to edit its opacity, size, and rotation. Shaking the phone will reset everything.
SmashFace will only detect one face per photo and will return the "best" face, i.e., the one that has the strongest recognition data. Future versions will support multiple faces per photo.
Yes it does. I am not smart enough to create the face detection technology myself, so I leverage the Betaface API, which requires that images be sent to their server and then returned for processing.

Privacy Information Terms of UsePhotos are transferred from your phone to my server, located at www.halnesbitt.com, processed, and then shipped off to the Betaface API to handle the recognition. The photos are transferred as binary data and are not held on my server and the data is immediately dumped upon completion of the processing. No data is stored on www.halnesbitt.com. However, images are cached on the Betaface server and use of the photos follows the Betaface API Terms of Use. You can clear their cache of your photos by clicking the button below.
